Good Friends

We've got some good friends in town this weekend that we haven't seen in far too long. It's always amazing to me how you can pick up where you left off, even if there is a decent chunk of time between visits. This is especially interesting to me as an introvert. I suppose it reinforces to me the truth that God made us for relationship, even if we aren't the most social beings. At some fundamental level we all long to have close relationships, to be known and to know others deeply. These sorts of relationships, that are forged over time and through many experiences, are the ones that matter most.

Deeper than sports allegiances, places of birth, family name, socio-economic class; friendship is about an intimate knowledge and respect for one another that lasts the test of time and gets better with age.

Thank God for friends; they are one of his best inventions.
